Understanding and Training a Bernese Mountain Dog

Bernese Mountain Dog

Bred as a "gentle giant" to work along side people and oversee to the home and family, the Bernese is responsive to obedience training. Training should be kind, gentle and good-natured, using a lot of praise and high encouragement. Many, less-bulky Bernese have the aptitude and drive to excel in obedience. Also due to the breed's tight family ties, they can attach strongly to one person. To avoid protective and anti-social behaviour, socialise the Bernese early and accustom them to people, noises and include them in a variety of activities.
