Dog Aggression FAQs

Does age matter?
Yes, age is important. By 2 years of age the dog's behaviour patterns are established. The longer the dog shows any bad behaviour, the more difficult it is to eradicate. Deal with behavioural problems promptly, do not leave them and hope the dog will grow out of them.

How will targeted aggression training help my dog?
Aggressive behaviour will not go away; however, it can be managed or controlled. By enrolling the dog in targeted training we can pinpoint the problem, establish a program that reinforces good behaviour and also give you the tools to continue the training when your dog comes back home.

Is it easy?
The rehabilitation of the dog depends on the cause and severity of the dog's problems. You have to be commited to following thru and this is usually hard work, but with time and patience a much better relationship will develop between you and your dog.

Will my dog be cured?
The answer is - you will have the same dog. The difference is that the dog's problems will have been addressed. You will also be in a stronger position as you will be able to spot and deal with aberrant behaviour.

My dog is only aggressive towards certain dogs/people?
This is not a good situation to be in. The dog's aggression will escalate if not dealt with. Also, at any given time, the dog can decide that the next dog/human it sees is not one of the chosen few.

My dog is only aggressive if people approach myself, wife or children?
This is not a good scenario as the person approaching could be an innocent passer by or someone who has reason to talk to you, e.g. a policeman. If the dog reacts and injures the person you would be accountable. Therefore, you need to have control at all times.
