Be consistent! Dogs are opportunists and if you give them an inch, they will take a mile.

Jayne Waller, Team Coordinator

Surrey school

Jayne Waller, Team Coordinator

Jayne Waller, Team Coordinator

Jayne was selected out of literally dozens of qualified applicants for the position of Team Coordinator of the Surrey school. The Team Coordinator is the liaison between the dog, dog owner, Trainer and Team of Carers - a key role requiring knowledge of canine psychology, health and care; practical handling skills; the ability to problem-solve and communicate effectively, efficiently and sensitively; and, the wherewithal to keep it all organised and up to date!

In the relatively short time that the Surrey school has been in operation, Jayne has demonstrated all of the above, and then some! Royvon is indeed blessed to have found such integrity and talent in one person, and instead of merely repeating her biography details from the Royvon web site, it is believed that her unedited answers to a recent interview tell the story of why she is so special:

What is your favourite breed? I am very fond of Rottweilers, Dashshunds and Collies but am particularly smitten with crossbreeds – I love them when they are unique.

Do you have any other pets at home, other than Oscar, who often tags along with you to work? - And, does Oscar have an interesting story behind him? Oscar was purchased as a companion for my dog Molly (a jack Russell, spaniel cross) who sadly died in 2003. He was purchased from an advert in the paper at 7 ½ weeks as the family had both mum and dad. Dad was a collie and mum was a gorgeous black Labrador. As soon as I paid, the lady said “thank god, the noisy one is going”, I did not know what she meant until I tried to leave Oscar and he screamed for England. He even used to escape out the cat flap and run down the road after me when I took my other dog out. Oscar also lives with 5 cats but has learnt that he is not the boss of the house.

What are the trainee dogs you're most drawn to at Royvon? I really do not like dogs that jump up so no matter how sweet they are they will not win my heart. I like dogs that play and enjoy life and like to learn. We have had a couple that I have been sad to see leave us.

What do you feel is the most important part of your job? I believe every aspect of my job is important - its like a wheel, if the dogs are well looked after and trained and the customers feel happy and at ease then my job has been done well. I am very much in the thick of everything.

What is the most enjoyable part of your job? I like that my job is so varied and I like seeing the dogs when they come in and the transformation when they leave.

What would you consider a key piece of advice for dog owners? Your dog is with you for a long time, so train them and train them right so that you enjoy your time with them and much as they enjoy it with you.
