The Royvon Dog Training Philosophy

At Royvon, we have been caring for, developing and training dogs for three generations. No matter what situation brings you to us, we will have experienced it before and will be able to advise and reassure you that we can help.

The Royvon dog training philosophy is centred on two things: our love of dogs and the belief that a well-trained dog can live happily in the company of confident owners who feel they can take them anywhere.

Dog-Training-Our-Slogan

The Royvon dog training philosophy is centred on two things: our love of dogs and the belief that a well-trained dog can live happily in the company of confident owners who feel they can take them anywhere.

Our Slogan ‘The Way You Treat Your Dog’ Is Based Around Three Key Principles:

Firstly, we believe in treating your dog with love and respect, rejecting forceful training and aggressive techniques for modern, positive methods, backed by scientific research.

Secondly, the use of dog treats to incentivise during training. Dogs have their own personalities and enjoy different things: some will do anything for a little food treat, many can’t take their eyes off their owner when they are playfully ducking and weaving, others are motivated by toys, some just love praise and a cuddle!

Knowing what gets your dog’s attention and how to use that to your advantage in training is a central part of the third principle, that training can be a special time between dog and owner. Royvon dog training isn’t just about dogs learning, it is about owner education to be the best they can be. Effective training is fun for both dog and owner, creating a bond and ensuring your dog only has eyes for you and what you might do next!

Why Should I Worry About Training My Dog?

As dog lovers, we want to see all dogs enriched by their daily experiences, able to enjoy themselves and spend more time with the people they love. When owners can trust their dogs to demonstrate good behaviour, it naturally follows that they are taken to more places. Without suitable enrichment, it is likely dogs will develop behavioural problems ranging from pulling on the lead through to reactivity, aggression and separation anxiety. Many owners make the mistake of thinking training is only something to consider when their dog is a puppy and later discover that the skills they thought they had cracked become unstuck as the puppy develops into an adult dog.

The Royvon Way

Royvon have been at the forefront of dog obedience and behavioural management training since 1959. Passed down through three family generations, we have vast experience with all breeds and temperaments of dogs. Importantly though, we have never stopped evolving and learning. We invest time in staying up-to-date with the latest research that informs dog behaviour and training methods.

Our progressive training methods are centred around movement and fun to motivate your dog, helping to build a strong relationship and capture your dog’s attention even when you are in more challenging and stimulating environments. Environment is a key consideration when it comes to training your dog effectively and we ensure all dogs experience different situations and locations while with us, to cement their learning. This essential variety gives you confidence that your dog won’t do one thing in training and another in the park when there are plenty of friends to play with!

The Importance of Play

It is not just puppies that enjoy play; adult dogs who are engaged in fun activities don’t need to chase after every smell, dog and squirrel they see or ignore your recalls as they know that the best times are to be had with you! The nature of the play that is going to engage your dog is individual and this is part of the dedicated focus your dog will receive at Royvon, whether you choose our residential training option or one of our non-residential dog training programmes.

Residential and Non Residential Training Programs

We see our role as not only helping to train dogs but to reassure owners that they have everything it takes to continue training, even when our team are not there. Our residential and non-residential dog training programmes were developed to give you the choice of what works best for you and your lifestyle.

Residential Dog Training

Our flagship residential dog training programme offers a smart solution for a variety of needs. If you are struggling with a particular aspect of your dog’s behaviour it may feel like a huge relief to bring your dog to Royvon and let us take on the training. Through an intense three-week period, we see huge shifts time and time again. We work with your dog every day to help them overcome behavioural issues they have or to continue to develop their obedience skills, the programme is based on your requirements and your dog’s needs.

When it comes to the time to collect your dog, they will not just be pleased to see you but will be proud to demonstrate what they have learned. We will talk you through their training experience to conclude phase one of the dog training programme.

Phase two is the three month continuation of dog training at home, focussing on owner training. We will set you and your dog up for success and help you on the journey to continue building on their new skills. Training is a life-long activity and an intense residential stay is a super-charged way to move forward in the right direction or reset from the wrong one.

While your dog is enjoying the stimulation of training and socialising with other dogs, where appropriate, you can enjoy a holiday away knowing that they are well looked-after in our award-winning dog-hotel style accommodation. We even create a WhatsApp group for the team who are caring for your dog to share videos about your dog’s wellbeing and training progress. While you’re visiting exotic new cities or just relaxing on the beach, your dog is having a great time discovering new experiences and getting in some relaxation time too!

Our team are on hand 24 hours a day to ensure dogs are  safe, healthy and happy, getting the attention they deserve. Both our Esher and Merthyr Tydfil training sites are licensed, insured and secure and our experienced staff are trained in dog first aid, as well as loving dogs and sharing plenty of affection and reassurance when your dog is away from their family.

Non-Residential Dog Training

Although our residential dog training offers a chance for accelerated and consistent learning without any of the distractions of home, it will not be the preferred solution for some dogs or their families. Our non-residential dog training programmes focus on helping you to gain the skills to train your dog yourself. Like humans, dogs are individuals, and they need their owners to understand them and what holds their attention. Learning to use play and movement to engage your dog is not something that can be picked up from a textbook because your dog is going to have its own ideas about what it thinks fun is!

We will work with you to create a non-residential training programme to suit you and the needs of your dog. This will usually be a mix of day school, one-to-one sessions, online support and training aids. Our fabulous training team are experienced in advising on the appropriate service for each dog and will tailor a programme to suit.

With the right focus at home on training before behavioural issues set in, and the expert input of Royvon dog trainers, your dog will likely never need residential training.
