What age can my puppy do a residential training programme?

We usually recommend that the full three week residential programme is carried out from six to nine months upwards. If you are considering a residential programme earlier than this, please get in touch and we can help to advise on the best option. We do have a shorter 1-2 week version for younger dogs or there may be a better way that we can help in the first stages, to support your bond as a family at home.

Is residential or non-residential training right for my dog?

This is down to the needs of you and your dog. Our residential programme was designed as a more intensive period of training, giving your dog the chance to concentrate on learning new behaviours with consistency and without any normal distractions. The changes during our three week programme are often huge and we see this continue to develop throughout the following owner training.

However, not all dogs need or can manage this sort of time away. Our non-residential programmes allow you to select help in the exact area you need it. For our more anxious guests we offer a stepped approach towards residential training to ease them into it but for some it may be a better option to visit with their owner for non-residential training.

If you are not sure what would work best for you and your dog, please get in touch with our expert team who will be happy to talk you through the different options.

Which trainer should I choose?

If you have a specific trainer you would like to work with having read their profile, or through a recommendation you have received, you will have the option to select them in your booking. If you don’t have a preference, we will match the information we have about your dog to the trainer we feel will be most suitable.

Darren is the owner and head trainer at Royvon and alongside the rest of the expert training team, offers one-to-one training for private clients across London and Surrey, coming to your home to carry out Royvon’s modern, positive training techniques.

Why should I choose the Royvon method for training my puppy?

We understand how many different sources of information there are on dog training, particularly aimed at the first stage of puppy training. There are so many conflicting opinions that it’s hard to know what to focus on. Mixed methods and advice can leave your puppy just as confused! The modern methods we use at Rovon are force-free, positive and enriching for your puppy’s enjoyment of life. Your puppy will learn that the human they are with is important: they can look to them for guidance to behave appropriately and receive rewards for doing so. We encourage playful interaction that is natural to a puppy’s nature and help you to learn the things that motivate them most, building a lifetime bond between you.

Do you do puppy classes?

It’s natural that you would like your puppy to interact with others and learn essential social skills while they are young. In our kindergarten and puppy school there are plenty of opportunities for this sort of development. However, in training sessions it’s most important that your puppy is able to concentrate, to learn the life skills that will prevent behaviour issues in the future and focus on the human they are training with.

When is the best time to start puppy training? Is my puppy old enough to start training?

If we could, we would start puppy training before the new puppy even comes home for the first time. In these earliest stages, especially before vaccinations are in place, it is not about the puppy but about helping you to follow the right path from the beginning, preventing problems further down the line. There is a lot of information available about bringing a puppy home and how to act in the early days but the value of bespoke advice cannot be underestimated. We carry out pre-arrival online consultations to understand your home, your needs, your lifestyle and the personality of your new puppy to help you best prepare for training success.

Beyond this first stage, our programmes are age-related. We start with kindergarten, move on to puppy school and for those who need it we have an adolescence programme. The sooner you and your puppy are committed to training, the easier it is to encourage good behaviours.
