Dog training for Labradors and puppies

Dog training at Royvon

The happy, healthy Labrador is just that - happy! This is a highly social breed with great versatility and adaptability. They are not excessively prone to aggression, territorial, destructive, nervous or hyper-sensitive behaviours, however, they do tend to keep somewhat exaggerated "puppy energy" into maturity. For this reason, most typical Labrador behaviour problems are in the realm of jumping up, pulling on the lead and general over-friendliness, this is where training Labradors can be useful. They meet & greet with exuberance and often fall deaf to their owners in the company of other dogs and people, this is why Labrador dog training and in particular recall training for Labradors can be especially valuable. And, while these are common traits in many breeds, the Labrador is so biddable, eager to please and so motivated by food & fun, training is usually as fun for the owner, quickly progressing and easy to incorporate into almost any activity.

Good breeding and effective Labrador dog training can lead to a dog that possesses just about every desirable characteristic for most dog owners and families - they are loyal, affectionate, hard working, reliable, social, responsive, affable... and for those who have owned the breed, the list can be endless. Thus, their popularity is and will likely remain steadfast.

As with many popular breeds, the Labrador may fall victim to poor, "for profit" breeding practices, thus it is necessary for prospective owners to ensure they choose a reputable breeder with health and temperament conscientious bloodlines.

Royvon specialise in recall training for Labradors.

Breed Characteristics Breed Awareness/Management

Due to this breed's build and high socialisation, they are quite hardy and spirited.

Training a Labrador will take a strong hand who is willing to work constantly and consistently. A pull or tug on a lead is barely noticed for an untrained Labrador talking their owner for a walk.

Due to retrieving instincts, the Labrador loves to please.

A happy, willing Labrador dog is very responsive to obedience training - reward your Labrador by incorporating dog training into your daily activity.

Due to a build that withstands sturdy swims, which include short-limbs, a dense coat, an otter-like tail, and a neck like a bull, the Labrador is one of the most resilient breeds.

Although a Labrador may learn to be perfectly happy with less than the required amount of exercise, if not properly done so, they will become obese, and their health and general well being is at risk.

Due to their popularly as a family pet and gundog, the Labrador is very prone to over breeding and poor breeding.

Be very careful in choosing a Labrador breeder! Not only reducing their hereditary risks, but also ensuring an even temperament.

Labradors have well earned their position as one of the top 3 breeds - they are good-natured, affectionate with everyone, adaptable and naturally social.

A well trained Labrador is extremely loyal, patient and a joy to be included in all aspects of family life!
