Royvon Dog Training Schools Proudly Presents

"Monty"

Before Royvon:

In many ways, I am a typical, happy and energetic Golden Retriever.  I like to greet people and jump and be included in activities.  I am, however, a bit of an opportunist and will take charge if given the opportunity.  I also like to chew and will choose to obey commands on my terms.  I will persevere and can be wilful.  But, I do have a good temperament and a great family and with some fine-tuning, I will be an exceptional dog!

During Royvon:

My Trainer's name was Barry Millington. Barry worked on my basic obedience, and a custom programme to address my general control in and outside of the house.  In addition, he identified my areas of strength and used them to introduce some specialised training exercises.  For instance, I am very good with my down/stays, as I see this as a safe position for me.  So, we practiced this exercise with high level distractions to get me used to settling and keep me under control.  This will be very useful in the house, when guests arrive, as it will when I am out on walks and feel the urge to greet people and other dogs.  We also practiced my down/stays out-of-sight and from a distance - also to keep me controlled and safe.

Barry recommended an obedience programme for me in the house.  It's not as much obedience as it is establishing and learning new rules to re-shape my behaviour.  If I know what is expected and am highly rewarded for making the right choices,  we'll eliminate any unnecessary confrontations and will live more peacefully.  I want to be included with the family, but with their help, need to show them that I can control myself.

After Royvon:

My family is over-the-moon and keeping busy with my continued training sessions!

More about Monty:

I am a very happy and healthy (and quite handsome) Golden Retriever named Monty!  I live with my family, which include four children and a nanny.  It's a busy house and I'm a busy dog!
