MERTHYR DOG SHOW RAISES OVER £600 FOR DOGS TRUST
It was a dog's day out for hundreds of dog owners and their pets as they enjoyed a sun and fun-filled day at the third Royvon Annual Dog Show at their Incline Top, Merthyr premises last Saturday (30th May).
The event was staged to raise funds for the Dog's Trust, a major dog rescue charity regularly supported by Royvon Dog Training Schools, the UK's leading providers of residential dog obedience training.
Event organiser, Royvon's Merthyr director Sarah Draper, said," We aimed to create a family day out for dog owners with competitions in twelve classes, dog obedience and agility demonstrations, and a wide range of stalls and amusements to suit all ages. We were delighted with the turnout and were really pleased to have raised over 600 for the Dog's Trust who do such vital work in supporting and re-homing rescued dogs. Last month we also hosted a 'Love your Dog Day' at Pontypridd Park which raised 200 for The Dog's Trust so we will be sending them a cheque for 800 to support their excellent work.
Local celebrity, Merthyr Middleweight boxer Kerry Hope judged the popular novelty classes and he said, " It was a very friendly and enjoyable event and as a dog lover it was great to meet so many owners and their dogs. It was also good to have time out from training as I have my next fight in Newport this Friday." (5th June)
- 'Best in Show ' winner was a Golden Retreiver 'Kiowa' shown by Lara Couldstow from Treharris.
- Best Young Handler Trophy was won by Christian Frost with his Corgi 'Alice'.
Royvon director Darren James said, "Our business is successful because we are committed to enhancing the lives of dogs and their owners through effective obedience training and boarding care. However we are delighted to run this annual family event for dog owners in the Merthyr area with the big bonus of raising money for a really worthwhile charity."
